The digital streaming rights were acquired by Netflix. Initially scheduled to premiere on Netflix just 28 days after its theatrical release, the streaming debut has been pushed back by a week due to the film’s continued popularity and strong performance in theaters.
The film exhibitors in Tamil Nadu requested the producers and distributors of the film to delay the digital release of the film by eight weeks.
As per the latest updates, the OTT release date has been pushed ahead by a week. Now scheduled for December 5, 2024, this marks the first time a Tamil film’s OTT release has been delayed to extend its theatrical run.
This unprecedented move underlines Amaran’s strong theatrical performance and ongoing audience demand. Industry expert Sreedhar Pillai highlighted the significance of this decision, noting on X (formerly Twitter) that such an OTT delay is a first for a Tamil film.

Amaran Movie Details
Amaran is based on the life of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan, a commissioned officer in the Indian Army’s Rajput Regiment. He was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his operation with the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion.
Sivakarthikeyan plays the lead role in the film, with Sai Pallavi playing the female lead. The film is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and has music by GV Prakash Kumar.

Amaran has garnered an impressive ₹168.70 crore net across all languages within 14 days of its release. Tamil audiences contributed ₹135.85 crore, while the Telugu market added ₹29.35 crore.
As of 15 November 2024, the movie has earned ₹75.2 crore from overseas markets. Combined with ₹195.25 crore gross from the domestic box office, its total worldwide collection now stands at ₹270+ crore, making it the second highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024.
